Actian Zen v15 Standalone Server

Typically, users with a standalone Zen environment will select a 1-User Zen v15 Workgroup Engine.  However, the Zen v15 Workgroup Engine is a 32-bit solution, and it differs from the Server Engine in a few key areas, including some important ones like security and performance.  (For a complete list of differences, follow this link.)  Since the 32-bit Workgroup Engine is limited to only a 4GB addressing space on a 64-bit operating system, this engine may start to have performance issues on large databases (10GB and up).

The Actian Zen v15 Standalone Server Engine is designed to bridge this gap. If you are an application developer looking to build a true Server Engine environment for testing, but only need a single-user license, then this license is for you. If you are managing a DR server (with an Insurance license at the ready) and need a 1-User license for testing purposes, then this license is for you. If you are an end-user with a single user solution, but you have a 64-bit operating system and you want the added security and performance of the Server Engine, then this solution is definitely for you!

There are some VERY IMPORTANT notes about this license, though. First, this is a BASE license only. This means that this license will NOT work as a User Count Increase to add another user to an existing Server Engine. Further, there is a Maximum User Count (MUC) of 1 on this base license, which means that the product is NOT expandable with User Count Increases, either. It is a true 1-user (and 1-user ONLY) license for stand-alone use. In short, if you expect that you will need multiple users in the future, you should not purchase this product, but instead get the Zen v15 Server Engine instead. If you need a low-cost engine for fewer than 5 users, then you should look at the 32-bit Zen v15 Workgroup Engine instead. And, if you are a developer looking to test multi-user systems, then you might wish to also examine the one-year Zen v15 Developer Pack license instead.

The Zen v15 Server Engine is available for Windows 32-bit or Windows 64-bit, Linux 64-bit, and Mac OSX 64-bit, and you can switch platforms and bit levels at any time.
